FAQs Answered by a Pharmacist – Scholl Wart and Verruca Freeze Treatment
What should I expect after using the freeze treatment?
After applying Scholl’s wart and verruca freeze treatment, you can expect a blister to form within a few hours to a day. This is a sign the treatment is working. Over the next 10–14 days, the treated wart or verruca will usually dry out, shrink, and fall off. You should not pick at it—let it come off naturally to reduce the risk of infection or scarring.
How do I know if a wart or verruca is fully treated?
If the skin is smooth, healthy, and shows no sign of hard tissue or black dots in the center, the wart or verruca has likely been removed. However, more stubborn or larger growths may require a second or third treatment, spaced at least two weeks apart. Do not treat the same area more than four times in total.
Can I use this treatment on multiple warts or verrucas?
Yes, the kit includes multiple applicators so you can treat more than one wart or verruca. Make sure to use a separate applicator for each one to avoid spreading the virus. Warts are contagious, and using the same applicator could spread the infection to other parts of your body or to others.
Is there a risk of spreading warts or verrucas to others?
Yes, both warts and verrucas are caused by strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV) and can spread through direct contact or shared surfaces. To reduce the risk:
-
Avoid walking barefoot in communal areas
-
Do not share towels, socks, or shoes
-
Keep treated areas covered until healed
-
Wash your hands after touching or treating the affected skin
What should I do if the skin becomes irritated or painful after treatment?
Mild redness, tenderness, or swelling is common after freezing treatment. However, if you notice severe pain, spreading redness, pus, or open sores, stop using the product and seek medical advice. These could be signs of infection or overexposure to the cold, especially if the applicator was applied too long.
Can I use Scholl Freeze Remover on my face or genitals?
No. This product is only suitable for use on hands and feet. The skin on the face and genitals is much thinner and more sensitive, and freezing treatment in those areas could lead to burns or scarring. For warts in sensitive areas, you should always seek medical treatment instead of self-treating.
Is it safe to use this if I have sensitive skin?
If you have sensitive or easily irritated skin, this product may not be suitable for you. Freezing treatments can sometimes cause discomfort or minor skin damage. Before using, test a small area nearby to check for sensitivity, or ask your pharmacist for a gentler alternative like salicylic acid-based treatments.
